Ordinary Diploma programs (NTA Levels 5 and 6) at Wesley College are designed to prepare high-caliber, middle-level supervisory, technical, and managerial professionals. Approved and regulated by the National Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (NACTVET), these programs combine advanced theoretical knowledge, applied research methods, and extensive practical field experience.

Offered across all core academic departments, Diploma programs build upon foundational technical skills, empowering graduates to manage projects, lead teams, make strategic decisions, or seamlessly transition into Bachelor’s degree (NTA Level 7) studies.

General Goals of Diploma Programs

  • Building Middle-Level Leadership: To fill critical national workforce gaps by supplying competent middle managers, systems administrators, field officers, and department supervisors.
  • Fostering Applied Innovation: To encourage trainees to design and implement innovative solutions to complex real-world challenges in business, technology, social welfare, and community development.
  • Driving Institutional & Community Progress: To deploy students into public and private sectors through intensive field attachments that directly support organizational efficiency and local development.

General Program Objectives

  • Supervisory & Managerial Mastery: To train middle-level professionals capable of planning, executing, managing, and evaluating operational processes and personnel within corporate, government, and non-governmental organizations.
  • Applied Research & Analytical Skills: To equip trainees with quantitative and qualitative research methodologies to collect, analyze, and interpret data for evidence-based decision-making.
  • Project Design & Administration: To impart skills in project proposal writing, resource mobilization, budget management, and program monitoring and evaluation.
  • Academic Preparation: To provide a rigorous academic foundation that meets university entry standards for Bachelor’s degree programs across Tanzanian higher education institutions.

General Entry Requirements for Applicants

In accordance with NACTVET standards, admission into Ordinary Diploma programs at Wesley College is accessible through two primary entry pathways:

1. Progression / Certificate Entry Pathway

  • NTA Level 5 / Level 6 Entry: Applicants holding a Technician Certificate (NTA Level 5) or Basic Technician Certificate (NTA Level 4) in a relevant field from an institution recognized by NACTVET.
  • Equivalent Qualification: Holders of relevant vocational or technical certificates accredited by recognized national regulatory bodies.

2. Direct High School (Form VI) Entry Pathway

  • Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE): Applicants must hold an ACSEE with at least one (1) Principal Pass and one (1) Subsidiary Pass in relevant principal subjects obtained during the same sitting.
  • CSEE Requirement: Applicants must also possess a Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with a minimum of four (4) passes (Grade D or above) in non-religious subjects.

NTA Levels 5 & 6

Standard Diploma Track

2 Academic Years

Four semesters, for direct Form VI graduates or NTA Level 4 holders.

NTA Level 6

Direct Entry Track

1 Academic Year

Two semesters, for students holding a completed NTA Level 5 Technician Certificate in a relevant field.

Mode of Semester Distribution

The two-year Ordinary Diploma structure comprises four (4) sequential semesters, each running for 16 to 18 weeks:

Year One

16–18 weeks

Semester I

  • Registration and orientation.
  • Core intermediate technical and theoretical modules.
  • Computer applications and analytical tools training.
  • Continuous Assessments (quizzes, assignments, mid-terms).
16–18 weeks

Semester II

  • Advanced departmental technical modules.
  • Introduction to research methodology and statistical tools.
  • First-year End-of-Semester Examinations.
  • Field Practical Training I (FPT): 6–8 weeks of institutional attachment.

Year Two

16–18 weeks

Semester III

  • Strategic planning, management, and administrative modules.
  • Proposal development for final year research or capstone projects.
  • Specialized continuous assessments and practical lab work.
16–18 weeks

Semester IV

  • Advanced policy, ethical governance, and management coursework.
  • Execution and presentation of the Final Year Research Project or Capstone Project.
  • Final Comprehensive Examinations.
  • Field Practical Training II (FPT): advanced supervisory attachment and graduation preparation.
