Contribution to the College and the Community
- To Wesley College: The department serves as an engine for internal operational support, campus enterprise projects, and student-led business initiatives. Faculty and students regularly contribute to the college’s administrative efficiency, institutional planning, and commercial activities.
- To the Community: The department boosts the local economy by providing capacity-building workshops for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), supporting local traders with financial literacy training, and producing graduates who establish job-creating businesses in the region.
Departmental Achievements
- Successfully trained and graduated cohorts of business professionals currently serving as administrative officers, assistant accountants, sales executives, and human resource assistants across Tanzania.
- Established active Field Practical Training (FPT) linkages with commercial banks, microfinance institutions, local government authorities, and private firms.
- Launched student business incubation initiatives that allow trainees to draft, test, and present viable business plans prior to graduation.
- Maintained full compliance and accreditation alignment with the National Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (NACTVET) standards.
Training Levels and Eligibility (NACTVET Standards)
The Department operates under the regulations of NACTVET, offering the following structured technical programs:
1. Basic Technician Certificate in Business Administration (NTA Level 4)
- Program Focus: Introduces core fundamentals of business operations, including customer care, business communication, basic accounting, computer applications, commerce, and introductory economics.
- Eligibility:
- Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with at least four (4) passes (Grade D or above) in non-religious subjects.
- OR National Vocational Award (NVA Level III / VETA) accompanied by a CSEE.
2. Technician Certificate in Business Administration (NTA Level 5)
- Program Focus: Expands knowledge into operational management, business law and ethics, small business management, fundamental marketing, sales management, and financial accounting. Includes compulsory Field Practical Training.
- Eligibility:
- Basic Technician Certificate (NTA Level 4) in Business Administration, Accountancy, Procurement, Marketing, or related business fields.
- OR Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) with at least one (1) Principal Pass and one (1) Subsidiary Pass in principal subjects.
3. Ordinary Diploma in Business Administration (NTA Level 6)
- Program Focus: Advanced modules focusing on managerial economics, strategic management, organizational behavior, financial management, business research methods, and corporate governance.
- Eligibility: Technician Certificate (NTA Level 5) in Business Administration or an equivalent recognized qualification from an accredited institution.
