1. JOB DESCRIPTION FOR PRINCIPAL POSITION 

 

 

LOCATION: Mwanza, Tanzania

JOB TYPE: Full Time

POSITION TITLE: Principal

SUPERVISOR: Board of Trustees, Advisory Board

DIRECT REPORTS: Deputy Principal of Academics; Dep. Principal of Finance and Administration, Administrative Secretary, Deputy principal of development

JOB SUMMARY

 

The PRINCIPAL of Wesley College will be responsible for the administrative oversight of the college including, but not limited to, staff, finances, academic programs, student services, and external communication. The principal will also be responsible for the growth of Wesley College by contributing to the design and implementation of the strategic plan, design and implementation of new academic/community programs, increasing student enrollment, and ensuring the long-term growth and health of the college. Attributes: A successful candidate will be entrepreneurial in approaching the challenges of growing a young institution, experienced in running an aggressively growing organization,

aware of big picture trends in education within Tanzania, and able to function well as the voice of the institution.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Provide leadership for the daily operations of the campus and college both in areas of management and program operations.

2. Oversee daily staff operations, including staff schedules, reports on completion of duties, adherence to all standards and policies, and resolution of complaints or discipline issues.

3. Create and lead the senior leadership team in oversight of the operational and fiscal management of the college in a way that fulfills the vision and goals of the college.

4. Perform job evaluations semi-annually (twice a year) for staff and faculty or as needed.

5. Oversee development of the physical site including ensuring all safety regulations are followed.

6. Oversee the development and disbursement of the annual budget.

7. Oversee the running and administration of academic programs, current and those in process of development through the Dep. Principal of Academics and other relevant offices.

8. Oversee student services including admissions, advising, completion of academic programs through the Dean of Students and other relevant offices.

9. Ensure adherence to government requirements for awards for successful completion of academic programs.

10. Represent Wesley College to donors, partners, government officials, and the general public.

11. Oversee the recruitment of students through the marketing officer and other relevant offices.

12. Contribute to the development of new academic and community programs.

13. Oversee the college’s unique process of student development into professional, practical, servant leaders for the community.

14.Contribute to the development and oversee the implementation of the college’s strategic plan for growth and development.

15. Provide regular reports on the program performance and financial progress of the college to the Advisory Board, Board of Trustees, and other necessary parties.

16. Oversee staff and faculty development in keeping with the vision and mission of the college and hold regular staff meetings to assess progress of the college.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  1. Master’s Degree in relevant field

  2. 5 years in a supervisory/management role within an organization with demonstrated success of growth

  3. Experience in team building and a participatory leadership culture

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

  1. Fluent in both Swahili and English Language.

  2. Preference given to Tanzanian applicants

  3. Experience in leading an organization through a construction process

  4. Experience at an institute of higher learning or training institute

2. JOB DESCRIPTION FOR HEAD OF DEPARTMENT IN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

LOCATION: Mwanza, Tanzania

JOB TYPE: Full Time

POSITION TITLE: H.O.D Business Administration

SUPERVISOR: Deputy Principal of Academics

DIRECT REPORTS: Director of Business incubator, department teaching staff.

JOB SUMMARY:

 

To oversee the curriculum and academic standards of the department, oversee tutors within the department, and be responsible for the creation and implementation of a department specific strategic plan for the growth and development of the Departments of Business and Entrepreneurship within Wesley college.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Ensure quality curriculum is prepared for use within the department that meets academic standards, NACTEVET requirements, and contextual, practical needs of students.

  2. Review and approve lessons plan of all tutors, both full-time and part time.

  3. Create and oversee a quality control plan for all tutors and markers within the department.

  4. Attend all staff meeting for Wesley College

  5. Chair regular staff meetings for the department

  6. Fulfill recruitment duties as assigned including, but not limited to, recruitment events, speaking at schools etc.

  7. Provide and utilize criteria for the selection of full and part time tutors as needed.

  8. Provide and utilize criteria for the evaluation of all tutors and professors, full and part time.

  9. Ensure the development and implementation of strategic plan for growth and improvement for the department.

  10. Ensure follow up evaluation of the effectiveness of graduates from the department.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  1. Bachelor Degree in Business Administration or relevant field

  2. 3 years in teaching and also a supervisory/management role within an organization with demonstrated success of growth

  3. Experience in team building and a participatory leadership culture

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

3. JOB DESCRIPTION FOR SWAHILI TUTOR

LOCATION: Mwanza, Tanzania

JOB TYPE: Part Time

POSITION TITLE: Kiswahili Tutor

SUPERVISOR: H.O.D Adult Education

JOB SUMMARY: Following approved curriculum, ensure student’s competency in areas of study through instruction and evaluation, and provide reports of the same to head of the department.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Following college procedures, make sure that all class periods are attended and that your attendance is recorded in the appropriate way

  2. Utilize curriculum to prepare a lesson plan which should be approved by the head of the department.

  3. Conduct classes according to approved lesson plans.

  4. Take attendance of students and reports to the head of the department.

  5. Evaluate student’s progress in learning and record the results of the evaluation according to college procedures.

  6. Issue marks to students and make sure that all marks are recorded and submitted to the office no more than one week after the end of the course.

  7. Check in with the head of the department at least once every three weeks to give a verbal report of class progress and discussion any challenges in the curriculum or student progress.

  1. Bachelor Degree in Education or relevant field

4. JOB DESCRIPTION FOR MATRON POST

LOCATION: Mwanza, Tanzania

JOB TYPE: Full Time

POSITION TITLE: Matron

SUPERVISOR: Dean of students

JOB SUMMARY

 

 To assist with and contribute to the supervision and care of pupil members in Hostels. To oversee the domestic running of the house; these will include cleaning, laundry, maintenance, health and safety and medical arrangements for individual pupils. Required to liaise with dean of students, as well as parents, about individual student pastoral issues.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Be fully responsible for the daily care and upkeep of the students at the Hostel house

  2. Report to the dean of students any emergency during night

  3. Encourage students to make their beds, tidy rooms, properly dressed and to be clean

  4. Take individual care of each student and encourage them to attend lectures at the college

  5. Co-ordinate with students in making sure cleanliness is done.

  6. Control and monitor proper usage of cleaning and dormitory supplies

  7. Ensure students rooms are presentable and be present to unlock rooms and supervise maintenance

  8. Be available to take students to hospital or town as necessary and supervise washing of laundry.

  9. Liaise with dean of students to prepare the shopping list and buying material for the month and report promptly any problem such as sickness on any emergencies

  10. Be a visible presence in dorm and co-ordinate preparation of supper or dinner

  11. Be available to welcome students back (home) boarding discusses any issue arising with students return laundry

  12. Monitor students during the prep time, and encourage them to prep.

  13. Prep ends, supervise the student going to bed, maintaining silence in the dormitory

  14. Be available during free time weekend and public holidays supervise supper and other well being

  15. Be available to circulate occasionally and ensuring minimum talk and be available in case of emergency call

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  1. Diploma in Nursing

  2. 2 to 5 years in Nursing or being a matron   

  3. Experience in medical matters, parental, training, health and safety matters  

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

  1. Fluent in Swahili

  2. Preference given to Tanzanian applicants

  3. Experience at an institute of higher learning or training institute or secondary schools’ hostels.
